My Story

I am not supposed to be here.

Here inspiring anyone or accomplishing anything.

My mother was 14 years old when she had me with a man who was five years her senior and never to be seen again until I was pregnant with my own child at 16.

Even then, he was only “seen”, but his presence or his remorse for never being a part of my life was never felt.

Living in poverty and being on welfare was never an excuse for me not to achieve. My mother wanted more for me.

Her demands for A’s and occasional B’s were excessive, especially since I could find no release from her demands with friends. Having a night out with friends was just as taboo as makeup, red lipstick and late night telephone calls with boys.

Yet I managed to become a mom at the young age of 16, much to the dismay of the African-American teacher who told me I would never amount to anything.

"I don’t think about what the people who shamed, shunned or doubted me then say now."

I don’t think about what the people who shamed, shunned or doubted me then say now when I look at two degrees hanging in the office where I manage multiple businesses while thriving in the academic arena as a 25 year veteran of the classroom.

I grew out of their labels and grew into my own woman once I decided to heal childhood trauma and make a decision to renew my mind to the possibilities that hope and grace said were all mine.

Broken childhood dreams, low self-esteem, divorce, betrayal and disappointment could never keep me from being the ME that God called to greatness. I refused to let them!

The truth of the matter is ...

I AM supposed to be here.

In this moment, in this decade, and I am here humming in melodious harmony with Maya Angelou who said, “I wouldn’t take nothing for my journey now”. I realize that everything that I thought was happening to me was in reality happening for me.

Every circumstance molded me into the woman that I am today- the woman who can boldly and unapologetically live a life of purpose and inspire others to do the same.

I AM supposed to be here, and so are you.

“There are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind.” -Maya Angelou

Let’s go get them! The time is NOW. Let's work together to bring the best of you into view.
